The first Rap Koktebel festival took place in the Crimean town of Koktebel on August 27-28, 2019. It brought together ten groups and performers from Russia and the US, including Mot, Guf, Onyx, Mickey Avalon, Azizi Gibson and Kravz.
The festival was organized by Red Square Media Group at the initiative of Dmitry Kiselev, with information support of the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency. There were over 5,000 visitors at the two-day long festival.
Maxim Kruzhenkov, winner of the rap competition at the Taurida 5.0 forum of young culture and art professionals performed at the event.
On August 27, Rap Zavod took to the stage. This was the first international interactive talent show where fledgling performers showed off their hip-hop skills. Locals and the best contestants of the project performed at the festival which brought together people from 14 countries and over 300 cities. The idea was to discover talented hip-hop artists.
Rap Koktebel’s partner, the Triumph Gallery of Modern Art, with the support of the Koktebel city administration and Red Square, selected 15 out of the best street artists from Russian cities who had been given the task of decorating the fence leading up to the main festival venue. Following the event, the organizers were planning to issue a book devoted to Rap Koktebel containing photos of the graffiti.
